Navigating Chinatown with no feel for the area, we walked from restaurant to restaurant, pulling up Yelp reviews while standing in the street. There's one fellow I follow who can clearly teach me a thing or two about Asian cuisine. (Hi Gerald!) When I read his review about Lau Kee, we marched right in. Lunch was delicious. Elsewhere I've complained about tasteless broth and doughy wontons. Not here! The broth is fragrant and flavorful, the wontons filled with pork and dare I say, perfect. Vegetables added a dimension to the already excellent soup. We also ordered a combination of beef, chicken and seafood thinking it would be just enough for the two of us. It was MORE than enough, with plenty left over for a second meal. There's nothing negative I can say. From the well-prepared proteins to fresh and crisp vegetables. Even the sauce, though subtle, was just right. We arbitrarily chose a winner! Our server -- perhaps a member of the family who owns Lau Kee -- was friendly and welcoming. She brought out a pot of green tea and kept our glasses of iced water filled. (An appreciated gesture on a broiling hot day.) Lau Kee is small. I counted five tables. Most of the lunchtime patrons were Asian. I wanted to sample every dish coming out of the kitchen! Prices are reasonable and portions generous. A very good restaurant for Cantonese cuisine.

The food is simply delicious. The service is really fast, great to order for take out. There are some spaces in the restaurant to eat in. The duck/pork rice dish is tasty. The yellow curry shrimp is also so good. I will definitely be a regular.
